Control System Modeling and Design for a Mars Flyer, MACH-1 Competition

چکیده
Mars science missions would benefit from the ability to acquire high resolution images of the Martian surface, as well as sensor coverage from other sensors. A robotic aircraft on Mars has been proposed to carry these instruments. The atmosphere and weak Martian gravity make the plane equivalent to a very high altitude aircraft on the Earth. The MACH-1 challenge is a design contest to model, simulate, and design the control system for this future Mars flyer. The design specifications are used to create a SIMULINK full six degree of freedom model, which is validated with open loop simulations. Trim conditions are used to generate perturbation models for control loop design, and output regulator linear quadratic regulator design is used to generate a gain matrix for straight and level flight. The generated model is unstable, and the control design developed cannot stabilize the non-linear model.

The Physics of Shock Waves and Experimental Shock Metamorphism: Dieter
Introduction: The cooperation between Dieter Stöffler and Ernst-Mach-Institut (EMI) [1-14] goes back to 1972 when first experiments were performed to shock single crystal feldspars by steel plates that were accelerated with an explosive plane wave generator [1,7]. The shock experiments initiated a series of studies that required versatile and reliable test methods for the generation of Hugoniot...
متن کاملA Study on Airfoil Design for Future Mars Airplane
An optimum airfoil design for future Mars airplane for Mars exploration is obtained by evolutionary computation coupled with a two-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solver. The optimized airfoil design is also compared with other airfoil designs optimized at different Reynolds number or at different Mach number to discuss Reynolds number and Mach number effects on airfoil design. Thes...
متن کاملModelling of Suddenly Expanded Flow Process in Supersonic Mach Regime using Design of Experiments and Response Surface Methodology
The present work is an attempt to model, analyze, and control the flow at the base of an abruptly expanded circular duct by using design of experiments (DOE) and response surface methodology (RSM). Tiny-jets in the form of orifice were positioned at an interval of 900, 6.5 mm from the primary axis of the main jet of the nozzle. Experiments were conducted to measure two responses namely, base pr...
متن کاملDesign of a Controller Allowed the Intuitive Control of an X4-flyer
In this paper, we present a control design for the tele-operation of a miniature unmanned aerial vehicle known as an X4-flyer. A simple dynamic nonlinear model for the vehicle, valid for quasi-stationary flight conditions, is derived as a basis for the control design. To ensure the vehicle remains in the quasistationary flight regime the controller incorporates barrier function on the closedloo...
متن کاملEvaluation of coalbed methane potential in Parvadeh IV coal deposit in central Iran using a combination of MARS modeling and Kriging
Coalbed methane (CBM) plays an important role in coal mining safety and natural gas production. In this work, The CBM potential of B2 seam in Parvadeh IV coal deposit, in central Iran, was evaluated using a combination of local regression and geostatistical methods. As there were 30 sparse methane sampling points in the Parvadeh IV coal deposit, no valid variogram was achieved for the methane c...
